TITLE: POWERDRIVE COMBUSTION ENHANCEMENT DEVICE
 
This invention serves in general as a retrofit device intended for Internal Combustion Engine, particularly as a technology for combustion enhancement. It will be installed at the air intake manifold provisions to boost engine performance thus reducing smoke belching and harmful carbon emission, and resulting to substantial fuel saving 20-35%.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION:
            It is of common knowledge that the development of internal combustion engine since it was introduced during the early 18th century has undoubtedly brought not only massive modernization in the global industry. But aside from this, it has also brought enormous pollutants such as harmful carbon emissions in the environment, mainly; Carbon Monoxide (CO), Hydrocarbon (HC), Nitrogen Oxides (NOx), Sulfur Oxide and carbon soot.
These internal combustion engine by-products are the major contributors that is causing global warming and consequently the so called climate change. And up to the present, it continuously worsens and threatens the condition of the environment.
Based on facts and actual study of some scientists and some experts in the field of automotive engineering, these so called machines or reciprocating internal combustion engines produces air pollution emissions due to its improbability to attain complete combustion of carbonaceous fuel, given in its system and design and the type of fuel that is being used.
The main derivatives of combustion process especially if it’s not burned well are: Carbon Dioxide (CO2), water and some soot. Soot is called particulate matter which if inhaled by human could result to asthma, lung cancer, cardio vascular illnesses that could lead to premature deaths. Some additional by-products of the combustion process include Nitrogen Oxides (NOx), Sulfur and some unburned hydrocarbons such as carbon monoxide, an odorless and colorless kind of gas which is poisonous and is the major component of smog produced mostly from evaporated and unburned fuel.
            Other combustion by-products are benzene, and 1.3 butadiene that are equally harmful. Carbon fuels also contain sulfur and impurities which eventually lead to production of sulfur monoxides (SO) and sulfur dioxide (SO2) that promote acid rain. Lastly, in exhaust pollution, is ozone (O3), which according to research is not emitted directly but produced from the air through the action of sunlight on other pollutants particularly nitrogen oxides to create so called ground level ozone.
Ozone is different from the ozone layer in the high atmosphere and it is considered as hazardous because it irritates the eyes, nose, and throat and damage the lungs if the levels are excessively high. Furthermore, aside from its harmful effects in our environment, air pollution has its detrimental effects to us humans. Among these effects are the deterioration of well-being and the lost cost of man hours which if we will only realize, it could worth billions of dollars just because of failing health.
           Hence today, there are serious global initiatives being taken up to control air pollution. Like the creation of the EURO4 that sets the standards for vehicles exhaust emissions which all countries have now adapted. And also the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) which has a task to do the same. But, the fact still remains that the fuel which is commonly used for these machines to run or function cannot be completely consumed during the combustion process because of its molecular structure. Fuel that is used for these machines are regarded to have a straight and long molecular chain which makes total combustion difficult to attain plus the design of the engine itself. Those said agencies mentioned above and Smoke Emission Testing centers here in the country shouldn’t be existing if what have stated herein is not base on facts.
            Furthermore, in a certain Internal Combustion Engine operating at 4,000rpm, combustion must commence and be completed in about 0.001s. A fuel of high grade is required to attain complete combustion at this extremely short time. Ideally, the solution to this problem is to blend one or more additives to achieve its desirable properties. N-heptane and iso-octane plus a blend of alkanes including detergents and oxygenators (oxygenators provide extra oxygen in the combustion process) such as MTBE (methyltert-butyl ether) or methanol/ethanol is the usual combination.
Aside from the fact that this compound potentially eliminates knock in both petrol fed and diesel fed engines, it also has an anti-detonating properties; thus modifying the stoichiometric ratio and the chemical character of combustion deposits, thereby reducing surface ignition and fouling of spark plugs.
Moreover, this compound has an excellent volatility for better mixing with air contents to avoid wear and tear. But when the fuel tends to suit too many requirements, the cost is significantly expensive for general use.

OTHER PRODUCTS:

           Other products available in the market such as gadgets, engine oil additives, and exhaust after-treatment systems are continually being introduced in the global market. One such device is the catalytic converter which is designed as an after treatment installed in the exhaust pipe and currently the most widely used.
But according to studies conducted by some experts, there are some issues with regards to the use of catalytic converters. One such issue is that catalytic converters in car exhaust systems break down heavier nitrogen gasses to form nitrogen dioxide (NO2). NO2 makes approximately 7.2 percent of the gasses that cause global warming. Vehicles equipped with catalytic converters produce nearly half of that NO2. Another issue is that this device is coated with radioactive materials such as platinum and palladium and had to be discarded as waste after they were used, which again pose potential hazards to humans and to the environment.
Moreover, this device is not only expensive for an ordinary car owner to afford especially in third world countries, but it will also reduce engine power and consequently will increase fuel consumption. Among the principles of Power drive is that fossil fuel are mineral deposits that should be treated like a valuable gem and likewise should also be conserved for a better cause or purpose. 
           Aside from the catalytic converters, there are also other products that was introduced in the market and one of these are the air bleeder gadgets like KHAOS, ECOTEC, UNIQ, POWERJET etc. Its principle is to inject atmospheric via air intake manifold which purposely as an anti-pollution but somehow will yield higher Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) in the process.

It has been found out in the automotive engineering base on recent studies that increasing the input particularly of air per se will reduce the hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide emission but will yield higher level of nitrogen oxides (NO2).
So air bleeder gadgets contradict its purpose as an anti-pollution device. Moreover, the simple word equation for the combustion of hydrocarbon in air is” FUEL + AIR + HEAT WATER + CARBON DIOXIDE + NITROGEN. 

           Leaner mixture can be achieved in the process by using this device.  It’s been an automotive engineering doctrine that lean mixture produces hotter combustion gasses than a stoichiometric mixture (balance air-fuel mixture ratio) and could cause serious damage to the pistons; it can melt as a result. Hot engine and extremely hot exhaust system can vaporize gasoline when the car is running; running loses will be likewise experienced. Rich mixture on the other hand produces cooler combustion gasses than a stoichiometric mixture. It is due to the excessive amount of carbon undergoing oxidation to form carbon monoxide rather than carbon dioxide. This chemical reaction wherein carbon oxidizes to form carbon monoxide will release considerably less heat than the other similar reaction that forms carbon dioxide. But rich mixture will result to poor fuel efficiency and higher carbon emissions while lean mixtures when consumed in an internal combustion engine, though somehow it can save fuel specially on carburetor type engines, it produces considerably less power on the other hand. There are other products like the Fuel Magnitizers and the HHO, the DTP chips, but somehow could not contribute more to solve the problem because of its more hassle features and its affordability as well.

On the other hand, car manufacturers are continually developing alternative technologies like the development of Hybrid cars. But somehow this technology is the costliest so far. Bio fuels and ethanol seem to provide a good promise but its distribution, with costly manufacturing infrastructure which consumes so much fossil fuel has contributed more to the problem. According to an article, the volume of corn needed to generate 30,000liters of ethanol can already feed 3000 families in china for a period of one year. Thus these technologies so far can be able to solve one serious problem but can create another serious one in the process.

 SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION:

            In accordance with the global principle and advocacy to preserve a healthy environment and to contribute in the global fuel economy, POWERDRIVE is a means to provide solutions to these problems in a more economical, yet simple but more effective method. POWERDRIVE in general is regarded as a retrofit device which technology is for combustion enhancement intended for internal combustion engine. Its installation is designed as pre combustion solution and it is also designed for easy installation to the air intake manifold using rubber hose and adaptors.
It optimizes engine performance and provides significant reduction in air polluting emissions particularly carbon monoxides, nitrogen oxides and hydrocarbons and all unwanted carbons. It is but rational that if you eliminate these harmful combustion by-products, you eliminate likewise all unwanted the carbons and greenhouse gasses that causes global warming.
            Similar to the installation method of an ordinary air bleed gadget, it is technically the same and also operates during the combustion process of an internal combustion engine without any electrical and mechanical modification or alterations involved. But contrary to the principle of an air bleeder gadget, the principle of POWERDRIVE  is not to add air to the air – fuel mixture ratio but to enhance combustion by blending some kind of a catalyst serving as a fuel modifier derived from the chemical reaction of various chemical compounds that were mixed together.
            The chemical reaction that occurred by mixing the compounds will produce a kind of hydrocarbon which are composed exclusively of carbon and hydrogen atoms and considered as excellent fuel additives. And since complete combustion is basically hydrocarbon (fuel consists of hydrogen and carbon) burning in oxygen, therefore, a sufficient amount of oxygen is needed for complete fuel combustion. So pine oil was added to the compound which consists mainly of biofuels such as cyclic terpene alcohols, and ethers and esthers which are oxygenators that provide extra oxygen needed to achieve complete combustion. Pine oil serves as good binder of the compounds as well. Hence the simple word equation for the combustion in oxygen is: FUEL + OXYGEN + HEAT  WATER + CARBON DIOXIDE.  The compounds will then be stored for some time in a metal container allowing the pressure to settle and cool down. As a result of the process, the compounds will transform into granular form before it will finally be loaded to a canister and then for final assembly.
